20周年記念シンポジウムを開催しました 20th Anniversary Symposium Held

2024年11月16日（土）、筑波大学筑波キャンパスにて（オンラインとのハイブリッド形式）、シンポジウム「世界遺産条約と世界遺産学の展開と展望」を開催いたしました。このシンポジウムは、筑波大学大学院世界遺産専攻・世界遺産学学位プログラムの開設20周年を記念して行われ、本学の世界遺産学がどのように展開してきたのか、そして多分野、多領域で活躍する修了生と連携して今後の展望をどのように描いていけるのかを考えることを目的として、5名の先生方と修了生にご講演いただきました。

最初の登壇者である稲葉信子先生（筑波大学名誉教授）からは、「世界遺産のコンセプトづくり」というテーマでご講演いただきました。ご自身が携わる活動を中心に、近年の世界遺産登録に向けた従来とは異なる視点から遺産の価値や魅力を再考する重要性についてお話しいただきました。
吉田正人先生（筑波大学名誉教授）からは、「自然遺産の動向と今後の課題」というテーマでご講演いただきました。日本の世界自然遺産に残る課題を指摘した上で今後の可能性についてお話しいただきました。また、最近の吉田先生の取り組みについてもご紹介いただきました。

修了生である半田文さん（小笠原村役場）からは、「小笠原村職員として見る小笠原の現実」についてご講演いただきました。現実の課題を目の当たりにしつつも大学で学んだことや理想を大切にしながら日々仕事に取り組まれている様子が語られました。
2人目の修了生として中谷一穂さん（文化庁）からは、「専攻修了後のキャリアの一例」についてご講演いただき、修了後のご自身のキャリアについて詳しくお話しいただきました。
最後に、末森薫さん（国立民族学博物館）からは「世界遺産専攻での学びといま」についてご講演いただきました。世界遺産専攻での経験が現在の研究者としての基礎を築いたことを詳しくお話しいただくとともに、今後の本学の世界遺産学への期待についても触れていただきました。

また、シンポジウムの開催を記念して『世界遺産学研究・世界遺産専攻20周年記念号』が公刊され、現在の世界遺産学学位プログラムに所属する教員の研究が紹介されました。

シンポジウム後に開催された懇親会では、教鞭をとられた先生方や修了生・在学生が一堂に会し、和やかな雰囲気の中で歓談の場となりました。参加者は、シンポジウムでの議論を振り返りながら、今後の世界遺産学の展望についても意見を交わし、有意義な交流の時間を楽しみました。
　参加者は合計103人にのぼり、社会のさまざまな領域で活躍する修了生と、世界遺産学学位プログラムで研究に取り組む在学生・教員が共にこれまでの世界遺産学を振り返り、将来の展望を考える貴重な機会となりました。ご講演いただいた先生方、ならびにご参加いただいた修了生・在学生の皆さまに心より御礼申し上げます。

On Saturday, November 16, 2024, our program held the “Progress and Future Prospects of the World Heritage Convention and Heritage Studies” symposium at the University of Tsukuba’s Tsukuba Campus in a hybrid format (both online and in-person). This symposium commemorated the 20th anniversary of establishing the Heritage Studies Program at the University of Tsukuba. The event aimed to reflect on the development of World Heritage Studies at our university and explore prospects in collaboration with active graduates in various fields and disciplines. Five professors and graduates were invited to deliver lectures.

The first speaker, Professor Emeritus Nobuko Inaba (University of Tsukuba), lectured on “Creating the Concept of World Heritage.“ She discussed the importance of reconsidering the value and appeal of heritage from new perspectives, focusing on her involvement in recent activities aimed at World Heritage registration.
Professor Emeritus Masahito Yoshida (University of Tsukuba) presented “Trends and Future Challenges of Natural Heritage.” He highlighted existing issues in Japan’s World Natural Heritage sites and shared insights on future possibilities. He also introduced some of his recent initiatives.
Ms. Aya Handa, a graduate and current staff member at the Ogasawara Village Office, delivered a lecture titled “The Reality of Ogasawara Seen as an Ogasawara Village Staff.“ She shared her experiences facing real-world challenges while valuing the ideals and knowledge she gained at the university.
The second graduate speaker, Mr. Kazuho Nakatani (Agency for Cultural Affairs), talked about “An Example of a Career Path after Graduation.” He shared detailed insights about his career journey since completing the program.
Lastly, Dr. Kaoru Suemori from the National Museum of Ethnology delivered a lecture on “Learning in the World Heritage Studies Program and Its Current Application.” He elaborated on how his experiences in the program laid the foundation for his current research work and expressed his expectations for the future of Heritage Studies at our university.

To commemorate the symposium, a special issue of the Journal of World Heritage Studies, titled “World Heritage Studies 20th Anniversary Issue,” featured research by current faculty members of the Heritage Studies Degree Program.

After the symposium, alumni, professors, and current students gathered in a friendly atmosphere at the Homecoming Day (networking reception). Participants reflected on the symposium’s discussions and exchanged views on the prospects of Heritage Studies, enjoying meaningful interactions.

A total of 103 participants attended the event. It served as a valuable opportunity for graduates active in various sectors of society, current students, and faculty members engaged in research within the World Heritage Studies Degree Program to reflect on the achievements of World Heritage Studies and envision its future. We sincerely thank the speakers and all participants, including graduates and current students, for their contributions.
